Hi all,
With todays update to Singularity, you will notice the new Eve Launcher. We have previously blogged about it some months ago and you can read that here: http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=3070
Over the last months, we have been working on completing the first releaseable version of the Launcher and making changes to the Launcher based on your very feedback on the dev blog. We are planning on releasing another dev blog in the coming days which will go into a bit more detail than the previous one.
In this thread we want your feedback on the Launcher based on your interactions with it on Singularity.
Please be detailed and constructive with your feedback, because it helps when collecting it and prioritizing what we should do next.
Do you like it and why do you like it? Do you dislike it and why do you dislike it? Come up with suggestions for how we can change it for the better. What would be a cool feature for future releases of the Launcher? Is something not working? Tell us what the error says and when/how you get it to appear.

There is a slight issue updating the server and I'm afraid we'll have to deal with it in the morning. Locking thread until it has been resolved. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

This is a BAD idea, I pay for my data (as you go) so sharing my install with others would tax me. Please don't tax me CCP At least give us the ability to opt-out of that "feature" thanks.
As I wrote in another thread:
Quote:P2P is still one of those features that might come in the future, hopefully the not too distant future, but still we're quite far away from it right now. When implementing it, we will make sure that the user has full visibility and control over what is done and that nobody sneaking away with your bandwidth without you knowing.

Salpun wrote: New version still runs the update proccess every time if you link off the launcher exe in the main eve folder.
I am not entirely sure I understand what you mean here. Can you elaborate a bit?
Salpun wrote:There is still not an option to reenable the launcher from inside the client. Makes testing annoying
We have plans to put in a shortcut called "Force Launcher" or something similar that people can run to start up the Launcher. In the meantime you can go into the \launcher\cache folder and delete settings.yaml to restore any settings you have done.

Hi,
Over the last month or so we have been going between multiple different ways of starting the Launcher, so all the shortcuts you see in the folder are most likely made by yourself or created when we were still testing some things out.
If you do a fresh install of the Singularity client you will see that none of the shortcuts are still there.
The way you should start the Launcher and the client is like you have always done it, by starting eve.exe or having a shortcut to eve.exe.
The sisi launcher is no longer supported and shouldn't be used anymore.
I hope that clears things out. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

This is totally unrelated to the Launcher, but more info regarding this crash would be useful, please send in a bug report.

Johan Civire wrote:Sure you can do this but make a option to close peer to peer because upload is not good here im my country let me say this we pay for upload so i like a options to disable peer to peer network. Without that i will ignore the launcher. and manual download the patch. But dont get me wrong here its just i dont pay for some one els.
There is currently no peer to peer implementation in the Launcher, the data you're downloading is still coming from our CDN just like before. And as you can see from the FAQ section of this very thread, there is no manual patches anymore, the only way to update the client is using the Launcher. Gunther Nhilathok wrote:Why is CCP trying to fix something that IS NOT BROKEN? How about we get things fixed that really are broken?
Have you ever had a look at a feedback thread from a big expansion? If you have, you know that there are plenty of people who run into issues patching their clients. This is not just going to make patching easier, but together with logging we can make it more robust and fix issues that we otherwise wouldn't know about.
Ontop of fixing issues with the patching mechanics itself, thanks to the Launcher we will have the ability to more easily and quickly release crash fixes without having to jump through the current deployment hoops.
So if you care about hoop jumping, quality of patching and quality in the game, you will like the Launcher. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Lost Hamster wrote:*sarcastic on* I think that will be really nice, when you release an 1 mb patch and the client will crc check 10gb of game files (which take 10+min) I think everyone will love the new launcher. *sarcastic off*
The check sums are cached between runs so it will probably take a bit longer time the first time you run it but a lot quicker the second time.

we better have COMPLETE control of this launcher -we do not pay sub fees to be your content peer to peer distributor - we do other things with our pc's then games and most of are bandwidth limited
that being said a nagging memory of boot.ini being replaced comes to mind...
KEEP it simple and KEEP US in Control of the program, if this becomes some p2p networking crap that kills the bandwidth while im in a telephony conference (voip) then its pretty simple, eve will be deleted and subs cancled.
dont try to put crap past on us like u do in the past, from the all the errors and problems im reading this is YET ANOTHER rushed release that is total garbage.
we pay your wages and keep you in business, we arnt here to deleiver your content, to advertise for you.
source code for this launcher better be open. im sick of ccp crappy releases and rush patchs.
This is the exact reason that we've added download throttling to the Launcher. Please dig through the options when it's gone live, we'd love to hear your feedback .
I would also like to add that the Launcher currently does not use any peer to peer traffic. More information about this can be seen in the FAQ on the first page.

Maul555 wrote:I am confused about the patch export feature here. Are patches made with this tool good for any release update? Can I take a patch created on a computer that is 1 week out of date and use it on a computer that is 6 months out of date? for that matter, can I take a new patch right now, and use it to update an original 1.0 eve client? if not, then where is that magic line in the sand drawn for the age of outdated clients that will take this?
You can only export/import patches between installs that patch from and to the same version. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

This is up next on our hitlist. We didn't want to change too many things at the initial release as it increases the risk of something going wrong. It was a big enough step to rewrite and replace the current client patching mechanic for both windows and Mac.
But yes, this will be included in the Launcher in the future.
Quote:The Windows error in German says "cannot access file as it is used by another process".
This is a known issue and will be resolved in a point release.

It does, we just tell the OS to open the link in the default browser. I just tried this on machine with Opera and it worked fine.
Quote:Launcher doesn't closes after pressing PLAY. I don't think it's good
Open settings and go to the startup tab, you can make it close if you want it to.

It is most likely saying that you still have files in the folder you're trying to install into. I would suggest going into that folder and manually deleting files you have there or install into another directory. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |
